Es Capdella is ideally situated for exploring the rest of the island.

The village:

Ca'n Barraca is situated on the edge of the village of Capdella, in the southwest of the island, approximately 30 minutes from Palma Airport. The main village is within easy walking distance of the finca, and has three bar/cafés, a small supermarket, newsagent, bank (with ATM), pharmacy and post office.

Es Capdella is a perfect base for cycling, walking and birdwatching, exploring the island and sleepy villages by car, or purely for relaxing amidst wonderful countryside and enjoying the peace and quiet that so many visitors to Mallorca don't even realise is here!

We can strongly recommend two good traditional Spanish café/bars in the village - Bar Nou (closed Wednesdays) in the main street, is renowned across the island for its Barbecued King Prawns, and attracts large numbers in the summer, so it's advisable to book. Sa Vinya, is tucked away alongside the local swimming pool (coming from the finca, it's just on the right before you reach the main street) and serves good, traditional food. Service in both establishments is friendly and helpful.

The public bus to Palma passes through Capdella, but we do recommend the use of a hire car to take full advantage of the various island attractions.

Nearby:

Within 15 minutes of the finca lie the exclusive marina of Puerto Portals (shown above) with a huge choice of restaurants, bars, beach and night-clubs; the more traditional fishing port of Andraitx; golf at Camp de Mar and Bendinat; and horse riding and tennis 5 minutes away in Calvia. The cathedral city of Palma, with its charming cobbled shopping streets, museums, galleries, tapas bars, restaurants and marina, as well as great dining, people watching and vibrant nightlife is 30 minutes away, and the picturesque villages of Deia and Valldemossa are within easy reach either by motorway, or a stunning coastal drive.

There is a choice of attractive beaches and secluded coves within easy reach.  Boat charters, organised trips, SCUBA and sailing are all available from Portals, Andraitx and Palma. There are daily markets around the island, selling everything from fresh produce to leather and antiques. The nearest market to Ca'n Barraca is five minutes away in Calvia on a Monday morning. Other attractions include the vast underground caves at Drac, and several monasteries and fishing villages which are well worth visiting.  A selection of guidebooks with full details of excursions and maps is available for our guests' use in the finca, along with our own recommendations.
